Oh yes! tons of THE best trends in fashion as well as tons of snow have arrived to the southern tip of Manhattan.
As expected the Autumn/Winter show for womenswear started in NY on February 7th, so this can only mean is time to grab pen and paper or smart phones and tablets if you will, and start buzzing around about the latest in fashion, isn’t exciting to presence and being front center to witness months and months of hard work from some of the biggest names in the industry??! Of course it is! Just imagine being in the middle of the audience at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents at Lincoln Center watching the elite designing coming together, twitting, instagramming, taking video and posting reviews online before the models are even off the runway!
Well if you can’t imagine it just indulge me in my enthusiastic self; after all you would have to be either a retailer, editor, stylist, blogger or a fashion icon/lover/follower/imitator/fashionista in any case to be as excited as I am.
You see, we as mere spectators/mortals, in comparison to the real VIP’s, always see the show “put together” but have you ever wonder who gets to go? or why? or how? So, the question is what happens behind close doors before this fashion industry event takes place???
So get this if you didn’t know it is actually fashion designers, brands or “houses” that hand pick who gets to attend their shows. Fashion designers actually select who is coming to see their latest collection being display on the runway, now who are these individuals sitting around the catwalk? Well they are the lucky fashion crow that goes from retailers, celebrities, top magazine editors, stylists, fashion icons and one or two techie. Now, why do they go? Well keep in mind that these events let the industry know what’s “in” and what’s “out” for the season so designers are most interested to show their new visions and creations and here is where the job of the editors or the media becomes a huge part of the selling process of their collections since editors decide which specific piece will make it into their cover shoots!
Another fact in this great event is that if you are lucky enough to get the invite there is no chance in hell that you can bring a date! bummer huh!
Now if you are wondering when do we get to see all this amazing pieces of your fav designer Oh well, I guess you an I will have to wait around 5 or 6 months to actually touch one at the stores since what is displayed during fashion week it is actually one peace per style of a twelve piece full collection normally. Once their line is bought then massive production starts with one or two modifications when necessary.
Right now all there is to do is to sit back and enjoy the shows that are to come still: NINA SKARRA, LELA ROSE, DKNY, TRACY REESE, TRINA TURK, CUSTO BARCELONA, DIANE VON FURSTENBERG, ZAC POSEN and many many more! Remember the show ends on Feb 14 and then off to Milan, London and last Paris. Can’t wait to see what new trends, sounds, concepts even the music designers will use to present their whole creations will make it this season, I heard Minkoff put a twist on the colorblocking trend that has been around now a few seasons by mixing chunks of different textures instead of contrasting hues. That technique was also seen on the runways of Jason Wu and Nicole Miller
Also pray that the blizzard doesn’t still the show!
