Kim Dotcom, the internet entrepreneur who is the founder of Megaupload, is married to Mona Schmitz (Mona Dotcom). He and his wife have five children. First, two boys and a girl, then he became the father of twin girls (his fourth and fifth children) when his wife gave birth in Auckland a month after he was released on bail from Mt. Eden prison.
Previously known as Mona Schmitz now Mona Dotcom married Kim in the peak of his success. The couple met in November 2007 and were married in July 2009, on the day after her birthday. Her wedding gift was a pair of fiberglass sculptures of faces created by Christian Colin, valued at over $78,000.
In 2009, Mona and her family relocated to New Zealand just outside Auckland where they acquired a 25,000-square-foot mansion, it was rumored that they were granted residency after promising to invest a ridiculous amount of money ($8 million). Media reported that Mona and her husband enjoyed New Year’s Eve fireworks from their private helicopter, rumors said Mr. Dotcom paid $500.000 for it.
Reportedly, Mona is a former model from the Philippines. She is now 28 years old.
Dotcom, also known as Kim Dotcom, Kimble, Kim Tim Jim Vestor, Mr Dotcom, set up Megaupload in 2005 while living in Hong Kong. Megaupload, was seized and shut down by America’s Department of Justice a year ago amidst claims of copyright infringement, racketeering and money laundering. Mona was under suspicion for helping his hubby at Megaupload.
Dotcom sure likes to surround himself with beautiful women and Playboy bunnies. And yet, friends say his only true love is Mona. Now she wants her stuff back and she told to the local newspapers in 2012:
“I have always believed my husband’s businesses are entirely lawful and I still believe this to be true. I am simply asking the courts to return my own property and make reasonable provision for our family’s ongoing maintenance and care.”
Reuters reported in January last year that, according to FBI estimates, Kim Dotcom made $42 million in 2010, or about $115,000 each day.
Dotcom launched in New Zealand his new website Mega, a file storage and sharing service on Sunday, the anniversary of his arrest on charges related to his now-shuttered Megaupload, accusing Dotcom of facilitating massive online piracy. 39-year-old Dotcom says he’s innocent and remains free on bail.
There also remains of Mr. Dotcom’s bail conditions, one of which is that he may not start a business in the same vein as Megaupload while his criminal investigation in America is continuing.
