Maryna Misiewicz, retired from the Army since 1976, said she couldn’t be more proud of her son. “I am so excited. I knew he was a smart child, and that he would do well in the Navy, but I had no idea he would ever command a ship. I am just really proud of what he has accomplished. He’s just become a wonderful man.” She was talking about the son she had adopted in Cambodia in 1973.
This article along with others was written in 2009 when Mike Misiewicz was made captain of his first ship. Much was said about his intelligence and loyalty.
Little did anyone think that the same man would in just four short years be accused of accepting bribes from an individual named Leonard Francis, a Malaysian
According to court documents, Misiewicz took bribes of expensive gifts and sexy prostitutes in exchange for “tipping off” alleged co-conspirator Francis and special agent John Beliveau, which ships would dock where, and whenever possible, using his influence to arrive at those locations.
All three of the above named men were taken into custody in September. Misiewicz was taken in at Petersen AFB in Colorado, Beliveau was cuffed in Norfolk, Va., while Francis, CEO of Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd. was arrested in San Diego. It is alleged that they are in the middle of the fraud to overcharged U.S. warships for essential services.
More arrests are expected as those already charged may name others. The three men have pleaded not guilty, and their attorneys are declining to comment. The defendants face up to five years in prison if convicted of conspiracy to commit bribery.
How heartbreaking for his mother, for his wife Marcy, and for his three children, Merrick, Macy and Mallory. So much promise thrown away, and for what? Prostitutes, Lady Gaga Tickets?? Hard to believe that a man so “intelligent and promising” could be so greedy. I know he’s ‘innocent until proven guilty’, but things don’t look to good for this navy guy.
