Gina De Jesus, Amanda Berry and Michelle Knight who were freed from kidnappers earlier this week have arrived back at their homes were the three women who were held by Ariel Castro for a decade can begin their new lives! In the mean time Castro has shown up Thursday May 9th to make his first court appearance after being officially charged on Wednesday.
For the rest of us his face and name will be forgotten but for the three women and their families Ariel Castro will live in their mind forever! As he made his first appearance Castro former school driver 52, was arraigned Thursday on rape and kidnapping charges in connection with the disappearance of three Cleveland women, and his bail was set at $8 million. Meaning effectively he will remain in custody.
It was the first court appearance for Castro, 52. He did not articulate a word during the brief televised proceeding, and no plea was entered on his behalf. Wearing dark blue jail togs, he spent his time looking downward in a gruesome appearance. He was handcuffed but his feet were not shackled
Castro is charged with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape in connection with the disappearance of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. The fourth kidnapping count applies to Berry’s 6-year-old daughter, who was born in captivity. Officials have said they will test to determine who is the father of Berry’s child!
Prosecutor Brian Murphy:
“Mr Castro stands before you a captive… the women are free to resume their lives”
Castro pleaded no contest. Police say his brothers appear to have no involvement in the horrifying case and their charges were dropped while Ariel has been put on suicide watch and will be kept in isolation.
While is still a mystery on how the three women were kept so long police said the women could only remember being outside twice during their time in captivity, and were then only allowed into the garage!
