We hear about tragedies happening to innocent people all the time, and yes, sadly we have one more to tell you. This time it happened to Adonis Mera. Over the weekend 16-year-old Corey Dunton opened fire at the Bryant Park skating rink hurting with his gun two people. It all went down after a feud over a coat erupted and Dunton’s shooting rampage resulted in the hospitalization of 20-year-old Javier Contreras and 14-year-old Adonis Mera.
Police arrested Dunton 16, on Sunday for the Saturday night shooting of both young males. Reports indicate Contreras, who was believed to be Dunton’s target, was shot in the leg and is expected to recover but it’s a different story for Adonis who had nothing to do with the initial altercation and was only there to have a good time, like the rest of the skaters.
All that the young boy did wrong was to skate into the shooter’s path, then Adonis was struck in the back; now doctors say that the lower half of his body has gone numb. Family members who were informed by doctors on Sunday about a possible paralysis outcome for the boy are in disbelief about what happened. Adonis’s older brother, 29-year-old Jorge Arias, said
“They said he has no feelings from the waist down,” “He was just there to go skating with friends,” “He can’t move anything from the waist down.”
Adonis had been posting joyfully to his Facebook page about being on the rink just minutes chaos erupted. One of his post said
“Bryant dead ass packed!”
The picture above was the last Adonis uploaded and was captioned: “Ice skating catch me at byant park”
Adonis who is a Lakers fan, has several pictures of him and his little nephew uploaded to his Facebook page. He seems like a sweet boy and those who know him said the same. The New York Daily News reported Friends gathered outside the teen’s apartment building Sunday, lamenting that their basketball-playing buddy got caught in the crossfire. A close friend said
“He’s a good kid. He doesn’t have any problems with anyone and doesn’t get into any kind of violence.”
After the mayhem caused by Dunton, everyone had fled the ice struggling in their skates, all except one guy laying on the floor; it is possible that Adonis Mera may never walk again and he is described as a guy who “lived to skate”

Our prayers go out to him and his family.
