Hysterical castings, fittings during the whole night, and three models to each bedroom: 48 hours with a top runway icon reveals the killing truth of Fashion Week. Marine Deleeuw was 18 when she first walked the catwalk during NY Fashion Week last September.
At the moment, as the French model prepares for one more round of New York collections beginning February 7th, we go backstage with Miss Deleeuw from last week’s haute couture shows in Paris.
Coffee and cigarettes is a normal thing here. Marine needs to do this when she travels from one show to the following.
Deleeuw, is the star for Louis Vuitton and had worked with Chanel, Valentino, and Dior all through the haute couture shows.
Traveling from Valenciennes, she stays in a model residence when staying in Paris and New York, in shared accommodation which can from time to time sleep at least three models to one bedroom.
She runs to castings, wakes up before the sun rises to make early call times for hair and make-up, and going bed late because of long-into-the-night fittings.
She most of the time is at her agency.
The French pretty was one of Spring’s top ten catwalk rookies, working for brands such as Celine, Lanvin, Narciso Rodriguez, Rag & Bone, Donna Karan, and Barbara Bui last year.
She worked for 36 shows total (BCBG Max Azria, rag & bone, Jill Stuart and Marc by Marc Jacobs.)
She is conscious that her carcass is her major tool, she says:
I will rest the most I can, take vitamins, and do everything possible to not fall ill.
The five-foot-nine model, is now in NY, then she heads to London, Milan and Paris.
