Yesterday we didn’t know who was Aaron’s girlfriend who found him unconscious, however we did read the fabulous words written by Quinn Norton an ex-girlfriend. In case you miss that check it out here.
But Aaron Swartz’s current girlfriend is Taren Stinebrickner-Kauffman, the person who found him hanging from a belt inside his bedroom window in the seventh-floor apartment at a luxury Sullivan Place building, she called 911.
Aaron’s death was ruled out a suicide, but Taren and the Swartz family and friends blame his death to criminal justice system.
“Aaron’s death is not simply a personal tragedy,” his family said in a statement. “It is the product of a criminal justice system rife with intimidation and prosecutorial overreach. Decisions made by officials in the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s Office and at MIT contributed to his death.”
31-year-old Taren Stinebrickner- Kauffman was born on November 14th, 1981 in Australia to DePauw professors , Bruce Stinebricker and Kelsey Kauffman of Greencastle. Taren graduated with a BS in Math, Political Science and English from Duke University in 2004.
From 2005 until 2007 she was a n analyst with the Mellman Group, Taren became an electoral director at GetUp in 2007 and the following year was a senior political strategist at AFL CIO.
In April, 2009 was a senior climate campaigner at Avaaz.org, in 2010 worked with Alliance for Climate protection as a director of analytics and online Strategy, later that year was a Consultant for MoveOn.org, the DNC, AccessNow.org, 350.org, and more and since July, 2011 has been an executive director and Founder at SumOfUs.org.
