The youngest son of the iconic actress has revealed some hard to believe insights about his mother. The American Film Institute named Hepburn third among the Greatest Female Stars of All Time! Her legacy goes beyond her performances translating into her loving personality.
Luca Dotti was born on February 8th 1970. He is the son of Audrey Hepburn and Dr. Andrea Dotti.
Luca works as a graphic artist and is currently living in Rome with his wife and two children.
Dotti, whose new book tittled Audrey in Rome will feature some 200 photos; some of which have never been published before. These images captured his mother throughout the Italian city.
Luca shares his mother’s jawline and doelike eyes, and also her predilection for privacy;
He recalls
“She used to surprise my friends with how casual she was,”
“They expected something incredible and instead found just a nice person.”
Hepburn and Andrea Dotti divorced in 1981but Hepburn and Wolders; an acquaintance she had met a few months before at a dinner party were living together and raising Luca in Rome and at La Paisible, which eventually became their permanent home. And with no career to attend to she would walk him to school but life in Italy was no Roman holiday, paparazzi dogged her every move. “I would get very angry,” says Luca.
When 63 year old Hepburn died in 1993 Luca was 24 living in Paris with his boarding-school sweetheart, Astrid, 23.
And now 20 year have passed of her death, and to commemorate the twentieth anniversary the iconic movie star features on this month’s Vanity Fair cover, making a remark of her son’s book release.
Just like any other loving son he intends to honor his mothers life, beauty, memory, her career and her timeless style and everlasting spirit.
Reflecting on his mother’s signature style – of wearing scarves and oversize sunglasses, he said:
‘She had, like every woman, maybe 30 or 40. It was a good way to be in disguise, big sunglasses and a scarf.
Luca also talked about his mother´s self image and how Audrey never believe she was beautiful!
‘She thought she had a big nose and big feet, and she was too skinny and not enough breast. She would look in the mirror and say, “I don’t understand why people see me as beautiful.”‘
In my opinion that only makes her more awesome who wants to hear about someone who is always flaunting what they got!
They also shared a special connection:
‘We joked a lot together about the fact that both she and I have a very good sense of smell. So there are certain scents, you know, a certain cake, or a flower, things like that. It’s not so physical, but it’s powerful
‘And every spring, especially here in Rome, you have this smell of orange blossom in the air.
Spring is coming and it was her favorite season. It makes me think of her.’
A true lady in anyone´s eyes!
