Miami Fashion Week has a lot to celebrate this year seeing as it’s the event’s 15th year in existence. An what a memorable one it was! Known for its people rollerblading in bikinis in front of all the art deco buildings the beautiful city of Miami is much more than that!
With a crossover of international culture from designers, entertainers and celebrities from around the world including Spain, India, Italy, Greece, Canada, Malaysia, Kingdom of Bahrain, Pakistan, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and all countries throughout South and Central America presenting their latest collections in women’s day and evening wear, swimwear, jewelry and accessories with hundreds of international media, jet-setters and fashion royalty enjoyed the shows.
Colombia’s Fabrizio de Castro, Carlos Miele, Julian Chang and Nicolas Felizol are among the other designers who brought their work to South Florida this past week.
But the true ferry tale prince is Brazilian designer Carlos Miele who was the honored receptor of the International Designer of the Year award on March 20th. Known for his creative convergence of cut and design, in conjunction with combinations of craft and luxury influenced by his Brazilian roots, Miele counts celebrities including Florence Welch, Rihanna, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyoncé as fans. Suzy Menkes of The International Herald Tribune,once declared Miele the “master of the delicate craft and intricate detail,” while Le Figaro’s Virginie Mouzat has written Miele “walks between austerity and exuberance; his work is sophisticated and elegant.” With designs also praised by Women’s Wear Daily, Style.com, Vogue and Vogue Paris, Miami Fashion Week is pleased to present the International Designer of the Year Award to Miele for his continued innovative vision and contributions to the fashion industry.
Additional featured male designers this year include Raafia Husain from Pakistan, Dusko Orascanin-Bosnia & Herzegovina, Mike Sylla for Baïfall Dream-Africa and many more.
