Martha Heredia, “Latin American Idol” champion was arrested for supposedly smuggling heroin stuffed in the heels of her platform shoes!
Martha Heredia was arrested late Wednesday when she planned to take a plane as from the Dominican Republic to New York.
The police found 2.9 pounds of heroin in the heels of three pairs of shoes packed in her luggage. She went through X-ray tests to check if she had swallowed some drug pills.
Heredia does not yet have an attorney. She could face more than 10 years in jail.
The 22-year-old was a star in the Dominican Republic after she won the final “Latin American Idol” competition in 2009.
Even the ex President Leonel Fernandez encouraged Dominicans to vote for her.
Dozens of fans greeted Heredia when she returned to the Dominican Republic after her win, and Fernandez invited her to the National Palace. In February 2010, he gave her the National Youth Award.
In December 2010, Heredia hit and killed a teenage Haitian boy with her car as he tried to cross a highway by foot. She had to pay his family some $275,000 as part of a court case.
Last month she filed a domestic violence objection against her husband, Manuel Varet Marte, a hip-hop singer known as Vakero. He was kept in prison for three months.

Martha Roseli Heredia Rivas was born in February 1, 1991 in Santiago de los Caballeros. She is known artistically as La Baby. Her dad is Felipe Heredia and her mum is Maritza Rivas. At the age of 13 Heredia discovered she had potential for singing and writing songs. At the age of 15, with her brother Luis Felipe, they created a hip hop and reggaeton group called Una Via singing. Heredia came to USA and created her own songs. At 18, Heredia traveled to San Jose, Costa Rica to audition for the 4th season of American Idol. She did well on her audition and traveled to Argentina. On December 10, 2009, after receiving more than 50% of the total number of votes, Martha Heredia became the new Latin American Idol.
After the release of her first single Musica in January 2010, Heredia was recording her new production with Sony BMG.
