Christy Ivie had to attend the procession of horses and uniformed law enforcement officers which lined the streets leading a flag-draped coffin that turned out to be the funeral of her beloved husband, a U.S. Border Patrol Nicholas Ivie who was killed last week.
Agent Nicholas Ivie loved horses so much that the rest of officers paid an special tribute on a 5-mile procession, by trailing his riderless prized horse, nicknamed Mouse for its rounded ears. The funeral was held at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house in the small town of Sierra Vista.
31-year-old Christy Morris Ivie, her daughters, and his friends remember him as a man who wouldn’t have wanted loved ones and colleagues shedding tears over his death. He was a lovely man who was devoted to her and her girls. We can’t imagine the shock and sadness she must be going through.
His famous motto in tough times was:
“Cowboy up.”
Ivie was killed Tuesday as he and two other agents responded to a sensor alarm aimed at detecting smugglers crossing into the U.S. The shooting occurred at night about five miles north of the border near Bisbee. The FBI said the incident appeared to be friendly fire involving only the agents.
While choking back tears, Joel Ivie said his brother loved the rugged hills of the remote border territory he patrolled.
His relatives and friends mentioned:
“Nick died in a beautiful place. The hills he was working in, he was very familiar with.”
” Ivie lived a life of quiet dignity.”
“He was the type of agent everybody wanted to work with.”
“He was just a good old boy.”
Ivie’s death established the first fatal fire discharge of an agent after 2 years ago when Mexican gunmen killed U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010 and spawned congressional probes of a botched government gun-smuggling investigation.
Nicholas Ivie met his wife Christy Lyn Morris in 2006, they got married and she became Christy Morris Ivie, a loving wife and caring mother of their two beautiful daughters 3-year-old Raigan, 22-month-old Presley
Christy Ivie was born on July 22, 1981, to Tracy and DeAnn Forsgren Morris. Before moving to Sierra Vista, Arizona, Mrs. Ivie lived in Spanish Fork, Utah. She has two siblings sister Jan and brother Travis.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Christy Ivie, her daughters, other members of her family and friends throughout this sad time.
